// Email Infrastructure
A self-hosted SMTP mail server running on our own domain and infrastructure — unlimited outbound email at zero per-message cost, tuned to stay out of the spam folder.

This project is a mail server we host and run ourselves, rather than paying a third-party transactional email provider. It sends all of our outbound email — application notifications, alerts, and bulk mail — directly from our own domain and our own infrastructure.
Third-party SMTP and transactional email services charge per email or per user once you go past a free tier, and that cost adds up fast at any real volume. Running the mail server ourselves removes that cost entirely: we can send as much mail as we need, and create as many mail accounts as we need, without a growing monthly bill.
On top of the mail server itself, there's a management layer (built with Node.js, Express, and MongoDB, with a Next.js interface) for creating and administering mail users on our domain — so new accounts can be provisioned on demand instead of being a manual server-side task.
Running your own SMTP server is only useful if the mail actually lands in the inbox. A meaningful part of this project was getting the sending domain properly authenticated and configured so outbound mail is trusted by receiving mail servers and consistently avoids the spam folder.
I built this solo, end to end — from server setup and mail deliverability configuration to the account management layer on top.
